‘Primavera’

EXCLUSIVE: Damiano Michieletto’s period drama Primavera has scored more deals through Paradise City Sales.

The debut feature of renowned Italian opera director Michieletto has sold to Aya Pro in Japan, Svoekino in Ukraine, Follow Art in Romania and Skeye for airlines.

Set in 18th century Venice, it follows a young violin virtuoso at an orphanage whose world is turned upside down when she meets Antonio Vivaldi.

The film launched at Unifrance Rendez-Vous in January before receiving its world premiere at Toronto in September. It has its MENA premiere at Red Sea International Film Festival today (December 7).

It previously sold to more than 20 territories including Scandinavia (Cinema Mondo), Baltics (Adastra Cinema), Portugal (Pris Audiovisuais), Greece (Filmtrade & Tanweer), Turkey (Filmarti Film), Bulgaria (Beta Films), ex-Yugoslavia (Discovery Film), Hungary (Vertigo Media), Poland (M2 Films), Czech Republic (Film Europe), Latin America (Plus Films / Imagem Filmes), South Korea (Entermode Corp), Taiwan (Swallow Wings).

Further deals include Australia & New Zealand (Rialto Distribution & Moving Story), Benelux (Cineart), Germany and Austria (X Verleih), Spain (A Contracorriente Films), Switzerland (Frenetic) and Poland (M2 Films).

The story centres on a 20-year-old violin prodigy whose life is limited to the confines of her orphanage where her only escape appears to be marriage. But her life drastically changes when brilliant composer Vivaldi, now known across the world for “The Four Seasons”, arrives as the new violin teacher and their complex artistic relationship gives her the strength to challenge her destiny.

Tecla Insolia stars alongside Michele Riondino as Vivaldi and Stefano Accorsi as the suitor of her arranged marriage.

The film is produced by Italy’s Indigo Film with Warner Bros. Entertainment Italia in co-production with France’s Moana Films. In Italy, Primavera will be released by Warner Bros. Italia, and Diaphana Distribution is handling the French release.

Paradise City is also at Red Sea with Cyril Aris’ Lebanese Oscar entry A Sad And Beautiful World in competition and Haifaa Al Mansour’s Unidentified in Arab Spectacular..
