
EXCLUSIVE: Following the phenomenal success of the Death Whisperer trilogy, Thailand’s M Studio is at the Cannes market with spinoff Saming The Werebeast, along with survival horror The Last Bliss.
Nadech Kugimiya and Ongart Cheamcharoenpornkul return to head the cast of supernatural action film Death Whisperer: Saming The Werebeast, a prequel set in the 1960s. The story focuses on a the search for a missing military officer in the jungle of Khao Khwang, where legends says man-eating tiger spirit Saming takes human form.
Bow Maylada Susri joins the cast. The film is scheduled to open locally on September 30.
Directors are Naritt Yuvaboon and Thanadet Pradit from The Death Whisperer 3, along with Chalit Krileadmongkon whose credits include Omukade and Leio.
“Tonally it’s darker and more intense, with strong survival thriller elements and a terrifying interpretation of the weretiger legend,” says M Studio CEO Surachedh Assawaruenganun.
“Audiences will experience suspense, mystery and constant pressure alongside the characters throughout the story. The film is physically and emotionally demanding for the cast. They had to take on action-heavy scenes, intense emotional performances, and difficult location shoots.”
The Death Whisperer trilogy (2023-25) collectively took nearly $60m (THB1.9bn) at the Thai box office.
Meanwhile, Pakphum Wongjinda’s survival horror The Last Bliss is set in a luxury wellness centre deep in the forest, where a dysfunctional family must confront their personal conflicts and to escape an evil spirit. It was filmed in the Phu Phan mountains in the northeastern Isan region, which has never appeared in a Thai film before.
