EXCLUSIVE: Screen can reveal the first trailer for Slovenian director Urša Menart’s Everything That’s Wrong With You which has its world premiere this month in the narrative competition section of this month’s Sarajevo Film Festival (August 14-21).

The drama follows Maruša who feels lost after a traumatic period of taking care of her terminally ill mother. She seeks refuge at her estranged father’s farm, where her only comforts are her late mother’s man-hating dachshund, and Alja, a young nurse she met online.

After hitting a dead end at home, Maruša decides to travel to Germany to spend New Year’s Eve with her new friend. When they finally meet in person, the complexities of their lives, including Alja’s health issues and personal dilemmas, put their fragile friendship to test.

The film explores the loneliness of a generation that is more connected than ever yet increasingly isolated, tracing a young woman’s search for belonging through the fragile bonds of friendship.

Everything That’s Wrong With You is Menart’s second feature as a director after 2018’s My Last Year as a Loser. She has also directed documentaries and co-wrote two feature films: Nightlife and Half-Sister, which premiered in Karlovy Vary in 2016 and 2019 respectively.

The project participated at the Cinelink Co-production Market 2022, Berlinale Co-Production Market in 2023 and at WIP Connecting Cottbus in 2024 where it won the award for sound postproduction and at CineLink’s Works in Progress 2025.

Everything That’s Wrong With You’s cast includes Anuša Kodelja, Klara Kuk, Matija Vastl, Kaja Ocvirk, Mojca Fatur, Ivana Percan Kodarin, and Marjuta Slamič.

Everything That’s Wrong With You is produced by Vertigo (Slovenia), in co-production with Chromosom Film (Germany), RTV Slovenija, Living Pictures (Serbia), and Tidewater Pictures (Germany).
