Producer Fauzan Zidni has been elected chairman of the Indonesian Film Board (BPI), with marketing executive Nazira C. Noer and fellow producer Yulia Evina Bhara appointed secretary general and head of international cooperation respectively, amid a local box office boom.

The trio will lead their first international delegation to the upcoming Cannes market with a clear mission: to grow Indonesian cinema from a local success story into a globally recognised creative force. Indonesia is one of the few territories where cinema attendance has risen since the Covid pandemic, with local films accounting for 67% of market share by 2025.

“It’s time to build an ecosystem that matches this momentum. We will focus on expanding Indonesian films’ access to the global market through strategic festivals and international co-productions,” said Fauzan, whose tenure as chairman will last four years.

He will look to encourage collaboration with the international film community. “Indonesian stories are ready to travel,” said Fauzan. “We are actively looking for international partners, whether studios, distributors or festival programmers, who want to co-create, co-finance and co-present stories from this region to the world. The door is open, and we believe the best collaborations are the ones that are yet to happen.”

Indonesian minister of culture Fadli Zon said: “BPI holds a very important position as a bridge between the government and the film industry. We hope BPI will further strengthen the Indonesian film ecosystem, promote transparent governance and open wider opportunities for creative talent throughout Indonesia.”

BPI is an independent body that was established by the film community in 2014 to advance the Indonesian film industry locally and globally. It advises the government on film policy, facilitates the national film master plan and supports enforcement regulations.

The appointment of Nazira and Yulia was made by Fauzan.

Fauzan’s producing credits include 2025 Rotterdam closing film This City Is A Battlefield, Marlina The Murderer In Four Acts from 2017 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, and 2013 Sundance title What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love; all of which were directed by Mouly Surya for Cinesurya.

Fauzan previously served as executive producer and head of original production at The Walt Disney Company in Indonesia from 2022-24, responsible for the production of 12 original series and 10 development projects. He also served as chairman of the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI) from 2016-19.

Nazira is co-founder of Poplicist, a film marketing and publicity firm that handles 40-50 Indonesian films annually. Its portfolio of around 200 titles includes many box office hits such as Jumbo, Agak Laen, Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion, Siksa Kubur and Gundala.

She is also co-producer and executive producer of this year’s Sundance competition title Levitating, Suzzanna Santet Dosa di Atas Dosa, and Kamila Andini’s upcoming film Four Seasons In Java. Nazira also serves as chief marketing officer at Navvaros Entertainment, a film investment company behind 11 local box-office hits, and previously chaired the public relations committee of the Festival Film Indonesia from 2018-24.

Through Kawankawan Media, Yulia has produced and co-produced 2022 Venice title Autobiography, 2023 Cannes Critics’ Week grand prize winner Tiger Stripes, and last year’s Cannes competitor Renoir. Last year, she served as a jury member for Critics’ Week and Busan.
