Film London has revealed the 12 projects participating in Audience on Demand, the training and mentorship programme addressing the changing face of feature film distribution.
Details of the successful film-makers and projects were unveiled at The Future of Independent Distribution event at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, which featured a case study on Film London Microwave’s Borrowed Time, currently preparing for a self funded direct distribution UK release on August 16.
Audience on Demand, funded by Creative Skillset and run in partnership with Creative England, is a three-month pilot programme that mixes classroom and one-on-one sessions alongside dedicated mentoring from top industry experts.
For emerging UK talent with a completed first or second feature, a key aspect of the programme is a marketing and distribution plan created by Iris Lamprecht (Film Tiki). This enables the participating teams to develop a tailored distribution and marketing plan specific to their project.
Adrian Wootton, CEO of Film London and British Film Commission said: “Modes of feature film distribution are experiencing a massive change and we believe it is important to arm emerging film-making talent with the tools to navigate this new landscape.
“With the help of our seasoned mentors and lecturers, I am sure the 12 talented teams participating in the programme will emerge with a forward-thinking bespoke distribution and marketing plan for their films to help them reach wide new audiences.”
The participants have thus far completed four days of initial classroom training, focusing on traditional sales, distribution and marketing, alongside exploring direct distribution models and how to utilise online social networks to find audiences.
Industry speakers included Ed Fletcher (Soda Pictures), Allan Niblo (Vertigo Films), Chris Warrington (Organic Marketing), Pete Buckingham (Sampo Media), Tristan Goligher (Producer of Weekend) and Franki Goodwin (Assests Producer for Western Edge Pictures).
Upcoming training sessions investigate exhibition including indie and multiplex cinema programming, festival and market strategies as well as the rise of online platforms and the deals and recoupment possible therein.
The 12 teams will present their bespoke distribution and online marketing plans to a select industry panel next month.
