EXCLUSIVE: Capitalising on the popularity of motorsport in the wake of the global theatrical success of F1, Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment has turbo-charged his AFM sales roster and will commence talks next week on the MotoGP drama Idols: The Last Lap.
Epstein has acquired worldwide rights excluding Italy and Spain, where Warner Bros will distribute the film in the first quarter of 2026, as well as non-exclusive rights in North America, UK, and Latin America.
Idols: The Last Lap is directed by Mat Whitecross and stars Oscar Casas and Claudio Santamaria in the story of a volatile young Grand Prix motorcycle racer who teams team up with his estranged father to redeem his career. Father and son must confront old wounds and personal demons to prove themselves on the world’s fastest stage.
The feature will screen for the first time at a buyers-only market screening on November 12 in Los Angeles. The European collaboration with MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports is produced by Jordi Gasull and Toni Novella of 4 Cats Pictures and GreenBoo Production’s Marco Belardi, and production took place in 2024 in Italy and Spain.
Formula 1 owner Liberty Media owns an 84% stake in MotoGP, which holds races across the world including the US, UK, Spain, Italy, France, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Argentina.
