
Fernando Eimbcke’s Flies landed second on Screen’s Berlin jury grid, followed by Lance Hammer’s Queen At Sea; while critics were less impressed with At The Sea and Home Stories.
Mexican drama Flies scored a 3.1 on the critics grid including three four-stars (excellent) from Anton Dolin (Meduza), Rita Di Santa (Morning Star) and Barbara Hollender (Rzeczpospolita).

The film, which follows a reclusive woman who connects with the child of a new tenant, is currently in second place behind Markus Schleinzer’s Rose on 3.3.
In third place is fellow new entry Queen At Sea from Lance Hammer which received an average of 2.9. The UK feature starring Juliette Binoche received four four-stars but also scored one one-star (bad), while the rest of scores comprised three and two stars.
Elsewhere, Kornel Mundruczo’s At The Sea and Eva Trobisch’s Home Stories failed to impress, scoring 1.8 and 2.2 from the critics, respectively.
Critics were also divided on films like Angela Schanelec’s My Wife Cries, Anthony Chen’s We Are All Strangers and Warwick Thornton’s Wolfram which all scored 2.4. Genevieve Dulude-de Celles’s Nina Roza received a respectable 2.6 rating including one four-star from Ahmed Shawky (filfan.com).
The next films to land on the grid will be Yoshitoshi Shinomiya’s A New Dawn and The Loneliest Man In Town by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel.
