EXCLUSIVE: New Europe Film Sales has sold Faraz Shariat’s Berlinale Panorama title Prosecution to eight new territories, with Screen releasing an exclusive first trailer of the film above.
The film is headed to Spain (La Aventura), Indonesia (Falcon), India (Book My Show), Benelux (Cherry Pickers), Czech Republic (Artcam), ex-Yugoslavia and Albania (Five Stars), Australia (Palace Films) and Denmark (Angel Distribution).
Prosecution follows young prosecutor Seyo Kim, who is determined to confront far-right violence in eastern Germany with the resources of the state. But when she survives a racist attack on her own life, Seyo takes matters into her own hands, putting her life further at risk.
The second feature for German-Iranian filmmaker Shariat premiered at Berlin in February, and will be released in Germany on August 27 by Plaion.
It is written by Claudia Schaefer, Jee-Un Kim and Sun-Ju Choi, and produced by Paulina Lorenz, Jorgo Narjes and Shariat, for Junglinge Film.
Chen Emilie Yan, Julia Jentsch, Alev Irmak, Arnd Klawitter and Sebastian Urzendowsky lead the cast.
Shariat’s debut No Hard Feelings also launched in Panorama, in 2020. He is currently developing his English-language debut The Beach Boy, with writer Ottessa Moshfegh.
