EXCLUSIVE: Tull Stories has picked up UK and Ireland rights to French directing duo Bertrand Usclat and Martin Darondeau’s debut feature Comedie Francaise about the behind-the-scenes shenanigans leading up to a theatre performance.
Paris-based sales outfit Charades has also sold the film to a slew of international territories, including Canada (Axia), Switzerland (Agora Films), Benelux (O’Brother), Germany (MFA), Czech Republic & Slovakia (Film Europe), and Airlines (O Briens International).
Comedie Francaise made its world premier as the opening night film of the 2026 edition of Unifrance’s Paris Rendez-Vous in January. It went on to play in competition at January’s Alpe d’Huez comedy film festival, earning a record four prizes, including the jury prize, the audience award, the regional Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes prize and the Canal+ prize for best film.
The film focuses on three crazy hours leading up to a performance of Macbeth, as the stage production is beset by delays, technical problems and ego clashes.
It is produced by Thomas Verhaeghe and Mathieu Verhaeghe for Atelier de Production, in co-production with La Comedie Francaise and France 2.
Jonny Tull, founder of Tull Stories said the film will hit cinemas in the UK and Ireland as part of the company’s new strand of international comedies called “Joy Of Cinema.”
We’re on a mission to bring fun international films back to UK cinemas,” he told Screen. “I can’t wait to have this raucous delight reach audiences later in the year.”
