The “Quinceañera” 15th edition of Guadalajara Film Festival in Los Angeles (GLAFF, November 6–8) will open with Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein from a selection where women directed 55% of the films.
Besides del Toro’s take on Mary Shelley’s gothic classic premiered in Venice and stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz and debuts on Netflix on November 7. The line-up includes another film that premiered on the Lido – Mayra Hermosillo’s coming-of-age drama Vainilla, which was a major prize-winner at 2024 Ventana Sur.
Running in various venues throughout Los Angeles, GLAFF will close with the Los Angeles premiere of Elegance Bratton’s music documentary and Sundance selection Move Ya Body: The Birth Of House.
Official selections include a special presentation of Fernando Eimbcke’s Berlinale world premiere and coming-of-age story Olmo produced by Plan B and Teorema, with Brad Pitt on board as executive producer.
Audiences also have the chance to see the documentary Depeche Mode: M directed by Fernando Frías de la Parra, whose I’m No Longer Here was Mexico’s Oscar submission in the 2020-21 awards season.
“As we celebrate our ‘Quinceañera’, we reflect on the bonds we’ve built over these 15 years that remind us of the importance of coming together as a community, something we need now more than ever,” said festival director Ximena Urrutia.
GLAFF is presented by University of Guadalajara Foundation USA, Guadalajara International Film Festival, Grodman Legacy, and University of Guadalajara. The festival will include panel conversations, masterclasses, and industry and community events. Additional programming will be announced at a later date.
