‘Warfare’, ‘Die My Love’, ‘Pillion’

Warfare, Die My Love and Pillion are the early frontrunners at the British Independent Film Awards (Bifas), with the 10 craft category winners unveiled.

Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s Iraq war-set A24 feature Warfare starring Joseph Quinn, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis and Kit Connor added to its already-announced best ensemble performance Bifa win with three awards: best editing for Fin Oates, best effects for Simon Stanley-Clamp and Ryan Conder, and best sound for Glenn Freemantle, Mitch Low, Howard Bargroff, Ben Barker and Richard Spooner. This is the second year in a row that Freemantle and Bargroff have won this award, after also winning last year alongside Mary H Ellis for Garland’s Civil War.

Lynne Ramsay’s Mubi title Die My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence as a new mother driven to the edge of her sanity, has clinched best cinematography for Seamus McGarvey and best music supervision for Raife Burchell and Ian Neil.

Harry Lighton’s debut feature Pillion won in costume design for Grace Snell (who previously won the same prize for The Souvenir: Part Two in 2021) and make-up and hair design for Diandra Ferreira. Picturehouse is releasing in the UK-Ireland, with A24 in the US.

The rest of the awards will be announced at the ceremony on November 30, held for the second year at London’s Roundhouse.
