‘Urchin’

EXCLUSIVE: Harris Dickinson’s directorial debut Urchin has sold across the globe for Charades following the film’s well-received world premiere at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard.

Following previously announced deals to Picturehouse for UK-Ireland and 1-2 Special for North America, the film has sold to Wanted in Italy, Ad Vitam in France, Karma Films in Spain, The Searchers in Benelux, No Comboio in Portugal, Cinobo in Greece, Rio Pictures for Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland, MCF in Bulgaria and ex-Yugoslavia, Bad Unicorn in Romania, Kino Pavasaris in the Baltics, Cinefil in Hungary, Lev Cinema in Israel, Bir Film in Turkey, Falcon in Indonesia, Rialto in Australia and New Zealand, Pictureworks in India, Starcat in Japan, and Aardwolf for airlines.

Urchin stars Frank Dillane as a rough sleeper in London trapped in a spiralling downward cycle of substance abuse as he attempts to turn his life around. The film scooped both the Un Certain Regard best actor award for Dillane and the Fipresci prize at Cannes.

Producers are Archie Pearch at Devisio Pictures, with Scott O’Donnell of Somesuch. The film was developed by BBC Film, and financed by BBC Film, BFI and Tricky Knot. Executive producers include Eva Yates, Ama Ampadu, Alexandra Tynion and Olivia Tyson.

Further cast includes Megan Northam, Karyna Khymchuk, Shonagh Marie, Amr Waked and Dickinson in a key supporting role.

Picturehouse will release the film on October 3 in the UK and Ireland; 1-2 Special is also planning to release in the fall.
