Disgraced former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced by a Los Angeles judge to 16 years in prison for rape and other sexual offences.

The ex-producer and executive was found guilty in December of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault against an Italian model known as Jane Doe 1 at the Mr. C Beverly Hills hotel in Los Angeles in February 2013. Sentencing had been postponed from January while Judge Lisa Lench heard defence arguments today (February 23).

Weinstein got eight years for Count 1 of forcible rape, six years for Count 2 of forcible oral copulation, and two years for Count 3 of penetration by foreign object.

During the session the defendant protested his innocence to the court, saying, ”Please don’t sentence me to life in prison. I don’t deserve it.” He previously claimed the case against him was a set-up.

The sentences will run consecutively, which means the 70-year-old is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison. He is currently serving a 23-year sentence handed down by a New York court in March 2020.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual offences and harassment by dozens of women. Since the accusations were made public in an October 2017 exposé in The New York Times he has denied any wrongdoing.
