
EXCLUSIVE: Héctor Medina from Los Frikis is among a host of actors to join previously announced Néstor Carbonell, Paz Vega and Andy García on Richie Adams’ upcoming historical thriller Pedro Pan, with The Devil Wears Prada directed David Frankel on board as executive producer.
Yul Vazquez from The Lost Bus, Tony Plana from Ugly Betty, Carlos Gomez from the upcoming Archangel, Selenis Leyva from Creed 3, Arian Cartaya from IT: Welcome To Derry, and Garret Dillahunt from Army Of The Dead, are also on board. Among the previously announced cast are Allen Leech, Danny Pino, Anabelle Wallis, and Yara Martinez.
Principal photography has begun in Mexico on the story, which takes place in the aftermath of Fidel Castro’s revolution as a Cuban socialite, an English schoolteacher, and an Irish Catholic priest in Miami spearhead an operation to help more than 14,000 children escape indoctrination and begin new lives in the United States.
Adams and Bart Gavigan co-wrote the screenplay and composer Carlos José Alvarez wrote the story. Steve Shapiro, Alvarez, and Liz and Ken Whitney are producing, alongside Adams through his new At Speed Pictures production outfit. Luisa Gómez de Silva will provide production services,
Franco and Brent Miller, whose producer credits include I Carry You With Me and Rita Moreno: Just A Girl Who Decided To Go For It) serve as executive producerss.
The real-life Operation Pedro Pan took place between 1960 and 1962, when Cuban parents sent their children to the United States in a clandestine programme supported by the Catholic Church and the US government.
