Zeitgeist Films and Kino Lorber have acquired all US rights to Ido Fluk’s German drama Koln 75 from Bankside Films.
Zeitgeist will release the film theatrically in New York this autumn with a national rollout to follow.
Premiered at this year’s Berlinale, the film tells the real life story of jazz pianist Keith Jarrett’s 1975 concert in Cologne and the teenage promoter who organised the event, which resulted in the best-selling solo album in jazz history.
Mala Emde, John Magaro and Michael Chernus star for writer-director Fluk. Sol Bondy and Fred Burle produced, with Oren Moverman, Lillian LaSalle, Zelene Fowler, Michael Fowler, Paul Hudson, Talaat Captan, Julianne Hausler, Jennifer Fox and Annegret Weitkämper-Krug serving as executive producers.
Koln 75 has already grossed more than $1m at the German box office and sold to multiple international territories.
Zeitgeist co-presidents Emily Russo and Nancy Gerstman said: “We loved this energetic and fascinating story with brilliant performances and look forward to sharing it with American audiences who have loved this iconic album for decades, but surely do not know the ‘almost didn’t happen’ events behind its making.”
