Leo Woodall and Clémence Poésy have signed to star in Peter Hoar’s feature debut, A Waiter In Paris, for which Cornerstone Films has boarded international sales. WME Independent is co-repping the US.
A Waiter In Paris is adapted by Ben Hopkins from the memoir of the same name by Edward Chisholm, about a depressed and over-educated man, about to turn 30, who arrives in Paris. He resolves to prove himself by joining the sharp-suited brotherhood of Parisian waiters but behind the glittering new hedonistic life he falls into lies a world of exploitation and precarity.
It will shoot in Paris, with FullDawa Films providing production services.
The film is former UK film critic Jason Solomons’ first feature as a producer, through his Movie Love Productions, alongside UK-based Phin Glynn. BBC Film supported development.
The project’s development was funded as part of the Curzon CM Development Fund (CCM), the joint venture between Curzon in the UK, Cinéart in Benelux and Madman in Australia. All three distributors are on board to release in their respective territories.
UK star Woodall’s credits include The White Louts, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy and Tuner. French actor Poésy’s credits include In Bruges and Charlotte Colbert’s upcoming Becoming Capa.
Hoar has directed episodes of The Last Of Us and It’s A Sin.
“What a thrill to have this cast and this filmmaking team bringing my first feature film to life,” said Solomons. “It has been a bewildering but totally beautiful experience getting to this point and I’m proud that this is exactly the sort of film I’d be excited about in my former role as a journalist.”
“A Waiter In Paris throws us right into the intoxicating world of Parisian food culture through the eyes of an Englishman,” added Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder. “With Peter Hoar at the helm and the always charismatic Leo Woodall in the lead, we are confident this will be a compelling proposition for buyers in Cannes.”
