EXCLUSIVE: Pascal Bonitzer’s Hugo, a contemporary comedy about the complexity of family relationships starring Fabrice Luchini, Chiara Mastroianni and rising talent Marie Narbonne, has scored early pre-sales for Losange Films, formerly known as Les Films du Losange.
Theatrical deals have closed for Switzerland (Pathé Suisse), Canada ( A-Z Films) and Benelux (Athena Films).
Les Films du Losange, the distribution arm of Losange Films, will release the film in France on March 11, 2026.
Titled Victor Comme Tout Le Monde in France, the film is now in post-production and was written by Bonitzer’s late wife Sophie Fillieres, marking her last project before she died in 2023. She entrusted her children to oversee the editing process and choose a director.
Luchini plays an actor enamoured with French author Victor Hugo who reconnects with his estranged daughter when her mother dies. Narbonne co-stars as his daughter and Mastroianni plays the actor’s career-focused wife.
The film is produced by Charles Gillibert’s CG Cinema alongside Luchini’s Assise Production.
“We are thrilled to support this film led by Fabrice Luchini, who invites us to explore the richness of Victor Hugo’s universe through a deeply moving and contemporary story about the relationship between a father and his daughter,” said Alice Lesort, head of international sales at Les Films du Losange.
“The film perfectly blends Sophie Fillières’ playful wit with Pascal Bonitzer’s elegant direction. It is undoubtedly a film that will captivate a wide audience – connoisseurs of Victor Hugo, fans of Fabrice Luchini, and more broadly, anyone who enjoys charming French comedies.”
The film is Bonitzer’s 11th feature, following previous titles including 2024 release Auction, The Spellbound, Pure As Snow and Right Here, Right Now.
