Producer Lynette Howell Taylor has been elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organisation’s board of governors.
Howell Taylor takes over the top elected role at the US Academy from Janet Yang, who served three one-year terms as president.
UK-born, Los Angeles-based Howell Taylor will be starting her first term as president during her second term as an Academy governor, representing the body’s producers branch. She previously served as vice president and chair of the Academy’s awards committee for three years.
An Academy member since 2014, Howell Taylor has produced more than 25 films, among them multiple Oscar nominee A Star is Born, The Accountant, Big Eyes, Blue Valentine, Half Nelson and the upcoming Roofman.
She also produced the Oscar ceremony show with Stephanie Allain in 2020, for which she earned an Emmy nomination.
Also elected by the Academy board as officers for 2025-2026 were Lesley Barber, from the music branch, Jennifer Fox, from the producers branch, Simon Kilmurry, from the documentary branch, Lou Diamond Phillips, from the actors branch, and Howard A Rodman, from the writers branch.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer commented: “Lynette has been a vital part of the Academy board of governors for many years, most recently revitalising our awards work as chair of the board’s awards committee. I so look forward to working with her as our new Academy president, as well as with these incredibly dedicated and strategic board officers. This is an exceptional group of Academy members who will advance the Academy’s mission, support our membership around the world, ensure our long-term financial stability, and celebrate the achievements of the global film-making community.”
