‘Late Fame’

Magnolia Pictures has acquired US rights to Kent Jones’ Venice premiere Late Fame starring Willem Dafoe, Greta Lee, and Edmund Donovan and plans a 2026 release.

Samy Burch, who shared an Oscar nomination in 2024 for May December, adapted the screenplay from the novella by Arthur Schnitzler.

Late Fame screened most recently screened at New York Film Festival and centres on Ed Saxberger, a forgotten New York poet who works in a post office and is championed by a young fan (Donovan) who brings him into his group of twentysomething admirers.

Magnolia SVP of acquisitions John Von Thaden negotiated the acquisition with UTA Independent Film Group, Cinetic Media, and WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers. Magnolia Pictures co-CEOs Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley said: “Willem Dafoe’s memorable performance, ably abetted by the rest of the terrific cast, anchors a beautifully complex tale.”

Late Fame is a Killer Films Production in association with Fresh Fish Films, Working Barn Productions, Morning Moon Productions and mk2 Films,

Pamela Koffler, Mason Plotts, Christine Vachon, Danny Roberts, H.S. Naji, Jackie Langelier, Taylor Shung and Ethan Lazar served as producers. Executive producers include Burch, Martin Scorsese, and Vanessa Saal.
