Mubi has acquired Na Hong-Jin’s Hope for key territories ahead of its world premiere in Competition at Cannes Film Festival this month.

The distributor has taken the film for Latin America, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey. It will announce theatrical release plans in the coming months.

South Korea’s Plus M Entertainment represents international sales rights on the film; Neon acquired North American and English-language rights last month.

The film is set in Hope Harbor, a remote village near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, where a police outpost chief receives alarming news from locals that a tiger has appeared. As the village erupts into panic, the chief is forced to confront a reality beyond belief.

Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender, Taylor Russell and Cameron Britton lead the cast.

The film is written and directed by Na, and produced by Na, Saemi Kim and Saerom Kim for Korea’s Forged Films.

Hope joins a Mubi Cannes slate that so far includes Pawel Pawlikowski’s Fatherland and Andrey Zvaygintsev’s Minotaur in Competition, Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma in Un Certain Regard, and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell out of Competition.

Cannes Film Festival 2026 runs from May 12-23.
