Neon and Universal Pictures Content Group have snapped up North American and international rights, respectively, to Baz Lurhmann’s recent Toronto world premiere Epic: Elvis Presley In Concert.
The distributors plan 2026 theatrical release for the film produced by Sony Music Vision, Bazmark, and Authentic Studios.
Epic: Elvis Presley In Concert features long-lost footage from Presley’s legendary Las Vegas residency in the 1970s, woven together with rare 16mm footage from Elvis On Tour, and 8mm from the Graceland archive, in addition to recordings of Presley telling “his side of the story” rediscovered during Luhrmann’s research for his 2022 feature Elvis that grossed close to $300m worldwide.
Luhrmann said: “From the first day my editor, Jonathan Redmond, and I encountered this rare and never-before-seen footage of Elvis almost 8 years ago, it has been our mission that Elvis should finally fulfil his unrealised dream to tour around the world.”
“With EPiC, Baz has crafted an extraordinary, immersive film about a legendary artist that deserves to be seen on the big screen,” said Tom Mackay, president of Sony Music Vision. Colin Smeeton, president of Authentic Studios, added: “When we started this project with Sony Music Vision and Bazmark, Baz set out to reimagine how audiences would experience Elvis – an ambition he has fully delivered on.”
