Predator leaps out
Disney blockbuster Predator: Badlands topped the global box office chart on its opening weekend with an $80m session. That figure was split evenly between US and international markets, with $40m coming from each.
The $80m figure is the biggest opening in the history of the nine-film Predator franchise, beating the $73.5m start of 2018’s The Predator.
Its performance also takes Walt Disney Studios’ cumulative box office for 2025 beyond $4bn ($4.1bn), crossing that mark for the fourth consecutive year.
Badlands’ $40m international opening from 52 territories was the second-highest for the franchise, behind the $48.9m of The Predator; although it was the highest excluding China.
The film opened at number one overall in many markets, including UK-Ireland, Spain, Australia, China, South Korea and Mexico. It was number one amongst non-local titles in France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Brazil.
Territories where it recorded the biggest opening for the Predator franchise include UK-Ireland, Netherlands, Turkey, Egypt, India, Brazil and Central America.
59% of its box office came from premium large format, Imax, 3D or speciality formats; while its audience skewed strongly male, with 73% compared to 27% female.
Badlands is the third title in the franchise to be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, after 2022’s Prey and 2025’s animated Killer Of Killers, co-directed by Joshua Wassung.
Badlands sees a young Predator outcast from his clan find an unlikely ally on his journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi lead the cast.
Regretting hits mark
In another soft global weekend, Paramount’s Regretting You held second place for a second weekend, with a $12.8m session – the only other title besides Badlands to pass $10m worldwide this weekend.
Regretting You took $5.7m from 57 international markets, dropping a moderate 30% on its previous international session. It now has $32.4m from international territories, and $71m in total, with Italy still to come.
UK-Ireland was a top performer again, with $1m; followed by Germany, Australia, France, Mexico, Spain, Brazil and the Netherlands. Most dropped less than 25% on last weekend, and the film remains in the top 10 in all of those markets, indicating durability.
Family drama Regretting You is the latest adaptation of the works of author Colleen Hoover, and follows a mother and her daughter exploring what is left behind after a devastating accident reveals a shocking betrayal. Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco and Mason Thames lead the cast.
Also for Paramount, Roofman starring Channing Tatum added $475,000 and is up to $24.9m worldwide.
Man of the moment
Anime Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc buzzed past $150m worldwide with a $9.9m weekend, of which $8.1m came through markets where it is distributed by Sony/Crunchyroll and $6.3m came from international territories.
South Korea is the top market for Chainsaw Man with $22.2m, as the fifth-highest-grossing anime film of all time. Following markets are Taiwan ($7.3m), UK-Ireland ($3.4m), Germany ($3.3m) and France ($3.2m).
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is a direct sequel to the first season of the Chainsaw Man TV series (2022), and adapted from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga series.
Also from the anime sector, Toho opened Shouta Goshozono’s Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution to $5.1m in Japan only – enough for sixth place in the global chart. It may stay on the chart over the coming weeks as it rolls out around the world, including UK-Ireland from November 14 through Sony; Mexico, Brazil and Argentina from November 20; and US from December 5.
Phone calls
Horror Black Phone 2 leads Universal’s slate, adding $9.3m worldwide on its latest session to pass $120m.
That included $4m from international territories, where it has $50.3m overall – just behind 2021’s The Black Phone at the same stage. Mexico was the top territory on the latest weekend with $1m, followed by Brazil, Spain, Germany, UK-Ireland and Australia, with the sequel running in line with or slightly behind The Black Phone in most markets. Japan opens on November 21.
Yorgos Lanthimos’s conspiracy theory thriller Bugonia opened in 10 further markets this weekend. It made $3.6m from international territories – a 35% drop - and $7.1m overall, for a $10.8m international and $23.2m global cume.
Its total included a $51,000 opening Thursday in Lanthimos’s home market of Greece, for number one in the chart on that day; and a weekend opening of $300,000, above Lanthimos’s Oscar-winning The Favourite.
Love takes over
Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love snuck onto the top 10 chart in 10th place this weekend, with a $3.9m session, of which $1.1m came from 20 international territories.
The film is released by Mubi in territories including North America, UK-Ireland, Germany, Australia, Italy, Spain, India and Turkey. It stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, with Lawrence playing a writer and young mother slipping into madness.
