Hong Kong-based Sundream Motion Pictures joins Korean IHQ and Beijing’s Polybona Film Distribution as investors for Hong Kong filmmaker Lee Kung-lok’s romantic comedy Let’s Fall in Love, which starts shooting in Beijing on July 24.

The project was announced at the Pusan International Film Festival in 2007, originally set to be directed by Chinese filmmaker Zhu Wen.

Daniel Yu, who worked with Lee on 2006’s My Mother is a Belly Dancer as one of the Focus First Cuts films, will produce the film. Yu recently left Beijing-based Orange Sky Entertainment as the production chief but continued working with his own Hong Kong and Beijing-based October Pictures, developing and producing Chinese-language films.

Chen Kun (Painted Skin), Lu Yi (Seven Swords) and Yuan Quan (Like a Dream) will star in the $1.5m film.  The story is adapted by Chinese author Li Wei’s novel, Please Fall in Love with My Ex-wife, which tells about a love triangle between a divorced couple and best friend of the husband.

The Korea-China co-production is a timely project, as separately the Korean Film Council announced its Beijing office on Thursday. The main reason for the Beijing office is to push forward more co-productions between Korea and China, said Edward Lee, director of the office. Lee served as the Korean co-producer for Feng Xiaogang’s Assembly and John Woo’s Red Cliff.
