EXCLUSIVE: Iceland’s Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) has set up the Arctic Script Lab, a development programme for emerging Nordic screenwriters.
Currently open for submissions until July 5, the Lab will select up to eight filmmakers who have a first or second feature at treatment stage.
The writers will be creating narrative which draw on Arctic storytelling traditions and lived experience of the region, be it social, cultural, political or environmental contexts.
Participants will be mentored by Icelandic director former head of the Danish Film School’s directing programme Dagur Kari. The first part of the programme will take place at the beginning of August, with the second stage an in-person workshop at the RIFF Industry Days (September 30-October 3).
The programme is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund, and co-developed with Greenland’s Nuuk International Film Festival.
RIFF Industry Days also includes masterclasses, panels, RIFF Talks, Impact Talks, a Producers Roundtable, Talent Lab, Young Nordic Voices Think Tank, and Work in Progress co-production forum. Portugal is the country in focus for the 2026 edition.
The 2026 RIFF will run from September 24-October 4.
