‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ hits $2.3bn at global box office; ‘The Odyssey’ on $1.5bn; ‘Coyote Vs Acme’ opens

‘Brand New Day’ still swinging in fifth weekend

Leading the field for a fifth consecutive span, Sony Pictures and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day stays top of the global box office chart this weekend with a three-day worldwide gross of $66.2m. 

The tenth live-action feature iteration of the Spider-Man franchise has now grossed just over $2.33bn worldwide, taking it past Titanic and Ne Zhe 2 to become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time globally. 

In international markets, Brand New Day had its best hold so far, dropping 39% to deliver $44m from 67 markets. The film’s top market totals come from China, with $227.4m; the UK, with $125.2m; Mexico, with $88.2m; France, with $81.6m; and Brazil, with $70.2m. 

In North America the blockbuster topped the local box office chart for the fifth straight weekend with an estimated $22.2m, for a total to date of $891.5m, making it the highest-grossing superhero film of all time and the second highest-grossing domestic release of all time (trailing only Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens). 

Sony’s other release in the global top ten, Insidious: Out Of The Further, held onto third place in the chart with a global gross of $28.8m from its second weekend on release, for a total so far of $110.2m. 

The sixth entry in the Screen Gems/Stage 6 Films/Blumhouse Atomic Monster horror franchise produced $18.7m from 66 international markets. It added $2.1m from Mexico, for a total of $7.7m; $1.8m from the UK, for a $6.6m total; and $1.1m from France, for a $3.3m total. 

The sequel’s estimated weekend gross from North America is $10.1m, for $43.6m to date. 

‘The Odyssey’ passes $1.5bn, Universal reaches $3bn internationally

Universal’s The Odyssey stands firm in second place on the weekend chart, taking $63m globally in its seventh weekend to pass the one-and-a-half billion mark with a total of $1.55bn. 

Internationally, the Christopher Nolan epic was down just 29% to take $48.7m, for a tally of $988.8m to date. The film’s biggest markets for the weekend were South Korea, where it became the biggest Hollywood studio film of the year, with a total of $70.1m; China, where the total stands at $88.3m; France, with a total of $81.8m; and the UK and Ireland, where the total has reached $106.5m. 

In North America the film dropped a modest 27% to take an estimated $14.3m over the weekend, for a total of $563.8m. 

The performance of The Odyssey – together with those of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael – has helped Universal become the first Hollywood studio to gross more than $3bn internationally in 2026. The company said this is only the third time a studio has passed $3bn outside North America since 2019.

‘Coyote Vs Acme’ leads new releases

Among this weekend’s new releases, hybrid live action/animated comedy Coyote Vs Acme emerged as the surprise over-performer, with $23.9m from 31 territories earning fifth place on the chart. 

Independent distributors in the UK and Latin America helped the film to $8.4m, and North America produced $15.5m. 

Combining Looney Tunes animated characters with a live cast including Will Forte and John Cena under the direction of Dave Green, the film was produced by Warner Bros but shelved in 2023 and later sold to Ketchup Entertainment, which is distributing in the US. 

The Dog Stars, Disney/20th Century Studios’ post-apocalypse thriller from director Ridley Scott, takes sixth place on the chart with a disappointing global debut of $19.3m, comprising $11.3m from 49 material international territories and $8m from North America. Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley star as survivors of a virus who must fight off roaming scavengers. 

Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-ups is the chart’s other new entry, taking ninth place with a global gross of $11.5m from 19 territories, for a total to date of $30.7m. 

The Indian underworld crime drama from KVN Productions features single-named star Yash in a story set during the Portuguese rule of Goa in the second half of the twentieth century. Geethu Mohandas (known for India’s 2014 foreign-language film Oscar submission Liar’s Dice) directs, and Yash also serves as a co-writer and producer.
