‘Hello Betty’

EXCLUSIVE: Spain’s Alfa Pictures and Australia/New Zealand’s Palace Film are among the international distributors to have acquired Pierre Monnard’s Hello Betty, from Germany’s Picture Tree.

The film is a biopic of Swiss advertising copywriter Emmi Creola, the inventor of Betty Bossi, the fictional character famous for her food and recipes. Sarah Spale, Martin Vischer and Johanna Hächler star.

Picture Tree has also sold the film to Germany (Alpenrepublik) and Austria (Panda), with a theatrical release for both territories planned for next month. Other territories to have taken Hello Betty include Israel (Red Cape) and Quebec (AZ Films for French Canada).

Hello Betty has racked up 150,000 admissions in Swiss cinemas to date.

Picture Tree is also talking to buyers about Bora Dagtekin’s comedy, The Perfect Holiday,  now in post, which Constantin Film will release in Germany in October. It is a sequel to The Perfect Secret,  itself the German adaptation of Paolo Genovese’s international hit Perfect Strangers.  Picture Tree is also selling The Perfect Secret and is presenting both titles to select distributors as a potential joint package.

The company is also touting a 4K restored version of Oliver Hirschbiegel’s cult 2001 hit, Das Experiment, about 20 men who volunteer for a psychological study simulating prison life. ARTE has acquired rights and the film is expected to screen in the classics section of a European festival later this year.
