EXCLUSIVE: Italy’s True Colours has sold Massimiliano Camaiti’s documentary Agnus Dei to Japanese distributor Cetera International.
The documentary, which premiered in Venice’s Biennale College Cinema section last year, is set in a Rome monastery where a centuries-old tradition is renewed each year: two newborn lambs are entrusted to the care of one of the cloistered nuns. With their wool, the monastery’s nuns weave the pallium that the Pope will wear on June 29, the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. But as the rite takes place in 2025, the Pope suddenly falls ill.
Last month, Agnus Dei won the best debut film prize at FIPADOC (Festival International du Film Documentaire) in Biarritz.
The documentary was produced by Italy’s Cinemaundici with the support of Biennale College Cinema.
The deal was negotiated during EFM by True Colours’ head of sales Francesca Tiberi and Cetera director Yoko Yamanaka. Cetera’s slate includes Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or winner It Was Just An Accident and Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light.
