Ventana Sur co-organisers Marché du Film, ACAU and INCAA have announced the 18th edition of the market will run from November 30-December 4 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The event has alternated between Montevideo and the traditional home base in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the past two years under a plan hatched in response to concerns at the time over public arts funding in Argentina under the Javier Milei administration.
The initial idea was to alternate through 2026. At time of writing it was unclear whether the Ibero-American market will return to Buenos Aires permanently from 2027.
The event will take place across several venues in Uruguay including the national cultural centre Sodre, the Cinemateca Uruguaya, which will host market screenings, and Teatro Solís.
Ventana Sur has been active in Cannes through the Ventana Sur Goes to Cannes showcase featuring Latin American works-in-progress presented to sales agents, distributors and festival programmers, and a dedicated panel with key representatives from ACAU and INCAA. The programme also included a case study session and a networking event.
Gisella Previtali, president of ACAU and co-director of Ventana Sur, said: “As Uruguay prepares to host this market for the second time, we face a formidable new challenge: to deliver an edition that rises to the complexities of today’s global landscape.”
“The Buenos Aires edition of 2025 showed us that Ventana Sur is not only a market — it is a laboratory for the future of Latin American content,” said Ralph Haiek, executive director, Ventana Sur Argentina 2025. “VS Tech was at the heart of that, bringing together the creative and technological talent that transforms stories into properties capable of crossing every screen and every border. Building IP that truly reaches audiences is no longer a challenge unique to Hollywood; it is our challenge.”
