DECEMBER 25 UPDATE: The Walt Disney Studios crossed $6bn at the worldwide box office on Wednesday (December 24) and become the first studio to accomplish the feat since the pandemic.

Avatar: Fire And Ash has already played its part in propelling the studio past the milestone and as of December 25 the sci-fi stood at $483.3m at the worldwide box office, comprising $353.6m from international markets and $129.7m from North America.

China remains the top market outside North America on $71.5m, followed by France on $33.8m, Germany on $26.1m, and the UK on $19.6m. South Korea and Mexico have generated $18.4m and $13.4m, respectively.

The studio’s releases this year have grossed $3.7bn internationally and $2.3bn in North America, establishing Disney’s biggest year since 2019 and the fifth occasion it has passed the milestone after 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. No other studio has reached the $6bn global box office mark since 2015.

Sixteen wide releases have fuelled the $6bn achievement, led by two $1bn earners in the form of current release Zootopia 2 on $1.3bn and counting, and Lilo & Stitch on more than $1bn. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts* and Captain America: Brave New World have contributed a combined $1.3bn.

Avatar: Fire And Ash accounts for a considerable year-end portion of the annual haul, with James Cameron’s sci-fi from 20th Century Studios reaching $450.1m after seven days in release courtesy of $331.1m internationally and $119m in North America.

The holiday season tentpole has overtaken Warner Bros’ The Conjuring: Last Rites on $317m to rank as the eighth-highest 2025 Hollywood release at the international box office. The third Avatar instalment will continue to climb up the rankings as it heads into its second weekend in the middle of holiday season.

By territory, Avatar: Fire And Ash stands at $67.1m in China, $31.9m in France, $25.4m in Germany, $17.4m in the UK, $16m in South Korea, and $13.1m in Mexico.

The tentpole has grossed $11.7m in India, $11.2m in Australia, $10.7m in Italy, $9.9m in Spain, $7.7m in Indonesia, and $7.1m in Brazil.
