EXCLUSIVE: New York and Paris-based producer Carol Polakoff is ramping up efforts to attract talent, funding and partnerships to her eclectic slate and has struck a strategic alliance with veteran acquisitions and packaging executive Susan Wrubel.

The Carol Polakoff Productions (CPPI) slate includes Walter Mosley adaptation Man In My Basement with Anthony Mackie in talks to star, while Kasi Lemmons of Talk To Me fame is set to write and direct the Zadie Smith adaptation On Beauty set up with Ruby Films and Film4.

The roster includes Waiting For Bardot based on Andy Martin’s novel with Will Frears directing and Freddie Highmore in talks to star, The Great Cyberheist with producer Doug Davison, politically charged drama Secret Sky with Eran Riklis set to direct and American Prometheus, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin.

Wrubel is a former VP of acquisitions and co-productions at Paramount and Paramount Classics and her packaging and acquisitions consultancy client roster includes UK-based Salt, New York’s IFP and the Rio International Film Festival.

Polakoff is a former photojournalist who produced and directed the TV documentaries Cuba: In the Shadow Of Doubt and The Closing Door: An Investigation Of US Immigration Policy. She is represented by Frank Wuliger/Gersh.
