Kill List director Ben Wheatley’s latest venture and a German drama about a Guantanamo detainee are among the new productions on Screenbase this week.

Alice Lowe and Steve Oram star in Ben Wheatley’s latest production Sightseers, which commenced principal photography on Monday (3) in Derbyshire. They play a couple who embarks on a countryside caravan trip that goes wrong. Lowe and Oram co-wrote the script together with Amy Jump for this comedy, which is produced by Nira Park for Big Talk Productions as well as Claire Jones and Andy Starke for Rook Films. Film4, StudioCanal and the British Film Institute provided financial backing. StudioCanal will also handle distribution in the UK and Protagonist Pictures will handle international sales.

Also currently shooting is Stefan Schaller’s drama based on the true story of German-born Turkish citizen Murat Kurnaz, who was arrested in Pakistan in late 2001 and detained for five years at the Guantanamo camp before being released in August 2006. Sascha Alexander Gersak has been cast as in the lead role alongside Ben Miles. The film is co-produced by teamworx and  ARTE as well as German radio and TV channels Bayerischer Rundfunk , Südwestrundfunk, Saarländischer Rundfunk, Hessischer Rundfunk and Radio Bremen. Shooting is scheduled to wrap in mid-December with a release planned for autumn 2012.
