Barcelona born director Jaume Collet Serra who has made a name for himself in the US is setting up a new production company in LA called Ombra Films, which will tie relations between Hollywood and Spain.

The new outfit will give up-and-coming Spanish genre directors, scriptwriters and technicians the chance to work on low budget English-language genre projects with top US and international actors.

Collet Serra has been based in Hollywood for more than 10 years and has worked with some big names including Joel Silver and Leonardo Di Caprio who were producers on his horror film Orphan (La Huerfana), backed by Warner Bros and Dark Castle Entertainment, and is in post on Unknown White Male with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger about a man who wakes from a coma to discover someone has stolen his identity.

Ombra Films will start by making one or two films a year in Spain using US and European funding, including Spanish subsidies, Collet Serra announced late Friday at the Sitges Film Festival where he is serving as a member of the Official Competition jury.
