eOne, FilmDistrict and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) will partner on a third Insidious episode following the stunning $41.1m estimated number one debut of Insidious: Chapter 2 at the weekend.

Leigh Whannell has signed on to write the screenplay as he did on the first two instalments. Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions returns to produce the film with Oren Peli.

Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman and Xavier Marchand serve as executive producers.

FilmDistrict will distribute in the US while eOne handles rights in Canada, the UK and Spain and SPWA handles remaining global territories.

Insidious opened on Apr 1 2011 and grossed $97m worldwide.
