Mikkel Nørgaard’s thriller records best opening for a local film in 2013.

The Keeper of Lost Causes has debuted top of the Danish box office, scoring 2013’s best opening for a local film in the process.

Mikkel Nørgaard’s thriller, based on the book by Jussi Adler-Olsen, recorded 120,522 admissions in its opening weekend to land the top spot, also notching the second largest opening for a local film in Denmark in more than a decade behind comedy Klown, also directed by Nørgaard and produced by Zentropa’s Louise Vesth.

Including pre-screenings, The Keeper of Lost Causes has 175,314 admissions to date, on par with the first instalment in the Millennium trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Nørgaard is currently shooting the sequel The Absent One, set for release in autumn 2014.

TrustNordisk handles international sales and has so far sold The Keeper of Lost Causes to more than 35 territories, including Germany, Australia and China.
