A new brand extension deal from Sundance Institute top brass with The Metroplex will present Sundance Film Festival – Hong Kong Selects from September 19-28 at the newly opened nine-screen cineplex in Kowloon Bay.

Festival top brass and select film-makers will attend the Hong Kong premieres of eight films that first debuted in Park City back in January.

Organisers will unveil the inaugural selection in mid-August. Sundance Institute and The Metroplex presents The Screening Series, supported by the US Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau.

“In our effort to share the best of American independent film with audiences outside the US, Hong Kong seemed an excellent location with a rich cinematic history,” said Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper (pictured at left with director of programming Trevor Groth.)

“In partnership with The Metroplex, we look forward to presenting a programme of diverse and high-quality American independent films.”

The move represents the latest brand extension. The third Sundance London took place in April, while the second Los Angeles-based Sundance NEXT FEST is set to run from August 7-10.
