Sundance: SPC takes Midnight, IFC Saints, Magnolia S-VHS
UPDATE: The deals kept on rolling in on Friday  with a quartet of domestic acquisitions including Phase 4’s acquisition of Newlyweeds. King Records has struck a deal for Japanese rights to Cutie And The Boxier.
SPC confirmed it had acquired North American and UK rights to Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight, the third entry in his Ethan Hawke-Julie Delpy romance. IM Global holds international rights. SPC negotiated the deal with Cinetic.
IFC picked up US rights from WME and Elevated Film Sales to David Lowery’s Casey Affleck drama Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, while Magnolia Pictures finalised a US deal with WME for Park City At Midnight entry S-VHS.
Phase 4 Films has picked up North American rights to NEXT entry Newlyweeds and plans a day-and-date theatrical and VoD release this summer. Shaka King’s debut feature centres on a disillusioned repo man in Brooklyn whose girlfriend urges him to better himself.
Amari Cheatom, Trae Harris, Tone Tank and Isiah Whitlock Jr star. Jim Wareck, Michael Mathews, King and Gbenga Akinnagbe produced while Andy Sawyer and Neil Katz serving as executive producers,
Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe negotiated the deal with Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films.
Submarine has licensed Japanese rights for Cutie And The Boxer to King Records. Zachary Heinzerling’s film screens in the US Documentary Competition. David Koh, Dan Braun and Josh Braun of Submarine brokered the deal with Akiko Uchida of King Records Japan.
