Focus takes Dallas Buyers Club
The distributor has bolstered it awards season war chest and acquired the Matthew McConaughey drama for the US and Latin America in a deal brokered with CAA. Voltage Pictures handles international sales.
Jean-Marc Vallée directed the Truth Entertainment production based on the true story of a Texan diagnosed with HIV in 1986 who circumvented complex governmental restrictions to corral alternative medications from around the world and sell them to fellow patients.
Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner also star in Dallas Buyers Club, which is in post. Robbie Brenner and Rachel Winter are producing. Craig Borten and Melissa Wallack wrote the original screenplay.
Truth Entertainment’s Tony Notargiacomo and Joe Newcomb serve as executive producers alongside Voltage head Nicholas Chartier, Cassian Elwes, Logan Levy, Nathan Ross and Holly Wiersma.
CAA packaged and arranged financing on the project. Focus CEO James Schamus and Focus president Andrew Karpen made the announcement on Tuesday  and will release Dallas Buyers Club in the second half of the year.
