Warners, Paramount unite with Nolan

The studios announced on Friday [8] they will jointly handle production and worldwide distribution on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi Interstellar.

Warner Bros will release the film internationally and Paramount will distribute in North America in theatres and IMAX on Nov 7.

Nolan and Emma Thomas of Syncopy Films and Lynda Obst of Lynda Obst Productions are producin Interstellar while Kip Thorne will serve as executive producer.

Legendary Pictures, Nolan’s collaborator on the Batman trilogy and Inception, is not involved in the project, described as a deep space voyage to the limits of human consciousness.

“As a film-maker and storyteller, Chris has continuously entertained the world with his extraordinary and unparalleled talents,” said Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey.

“I am pleased beyond measure to welcome him to the Paramount Pictures family. Partnering with Chris, Emma, Lynda and Warner Bros to release this original idea next November is the perfect way to start the Thanksgiving and holiday movie season for audiences around the world.”

“Christopher Nolan is truly one of the great auteurs working in film today, and we’re extremely proud of our successful and ongoing collaboration with him and Emma Thomas,” said Warner Bros Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov. “We are excited to be teaming with Paramount, and look forward to working with the Nolans, and producer Lynda Obst, on this extraordinary new project.”

  • Over three years ago Steven Spielberg was going to direct this for Dreamwork and Paramount.

    Years later Steven Spielberg drops out Christopher Nolan takes over the directors chair and Warners take international rights.

    Year on year Warners have incredible lineups this year with The Hangover III, Pacfic Rim, Man of Steel, The Great Gatsby, The Hobbit 2
    and next year with this added to the lineup along with The Hobbit 3 and Wally Pfister's sci-fier Transcendence, Mad Max Fury Road, All You Need Is Kill, Jupiter Accending, Lego, Godzilla they are in for another incredible year.
