Memento cuffs Kevin Bacon cop film
EXCLUSIVE: Jon Watts’ thriller was co-written with Christopher Ford.
Memento Film International (MFI) has acquired international rights to Jon Watts’ thriller Cop Car, starring Kevin Bacon as a police officer.
The film follows a pair of ten-year olds who go for a joyride in an abandoned car only to find the owner has left something of great value behind.
The car belongs, in fact, to a small-time cop, played by Bacon, who is desperate to get it back. A fast-paced game of cat-and-mouse ensues.
“We fell in love with Cop Car as quickly as our two rabble rousing young heroes try to get the hell away from Kevin Bacon’s character,” said MFI managing director Emilie Georges, international.
It is a second feature for Watts after horror picture Clown, about a vintage clown suit that turns wearers into killers, produced by and featuring Eli Roth in the cast. The film is due to be released by Dimension later this year.
Watt’s co-wrote the script with Christopher Ford (Robot & Frank).
CAA will represent North American rights. Producers are Cody Ryder, Alicia Van Couvering, Sam Bisbee and Andrew Kortschak.
“Memento has championed some of the most exciting, genre-twisted film of the last decade, and we can’t imagine a better partner,” the producers said.
Watts is represented by CAA, which will handle North American rights.
