Dominic Cooper has become the latest actor to join the cast of Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The First Avenger following yesterday’s news about Tommy Lee Jones.

Cooper will play the younger version of Howard Stark, the brilliant inventor and father of Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

The actor is represented by CAA and stars in Stephen Frears’ Tamara Drewe, which premiered last month in Cannes. He will next be seen portraying the body double of Saddam Hussein’s reviled son Uday in The Devil’s Double, directed by Lee Tamahori.

Joe Johnston will direct Captain America from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige producing.

On Monday Marvel Studios announced it had cast Jones as US Army Colonel Chester Phillips, the man who brings Steve Rogers into the super soldier project that will eventually turn him into Captain America.

Paramount will release the film in the US on July 22, 2011.
