Germany’s Shooting Star Saskia Rosendahl [pictured], who last year came to international attention in the title role of Cate Shortland’s Lore, has been cast as one of the leads in German-Afghan director Burhan Qurbani’s second feature We Are Young, We Are Strong.
Qurbani’s debut feature Shahada had been in competition at the Berlinale in 2010 and he had pitched this second feature as a project at the Sofia Meetings in 2011.
We Are Young, We Are Strong is a fictional dramatisation of the riots in a Rostock suburb in August 1992 as seen through the perspectives of three different characters – a frustrated unemployed young man, an ambitious local politician and a Vietnamese woman hoping for a new life in Germany.
Producer Leif Alexis told Screen that principal photography on the teamWorx Ludwigsburg production will begin on April 22.
It is being co-produced by ZDF/Das kleine Fernsehspiel and ARTE with backing from Mitteldeutsche Medienfoerderung, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and BKM.
