Hot projects on Screenbase
Martin Scorsese [pictured] has lined up his next project, a big screen adaptation of the thriller The Snowman by Norwegian novelist Jo Nesbø. The story centres on a detective who is confronted with a serial killer. Nesbø executive produces alongside Niclas Salomonsson, while Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing for Working Title Films. Matthew Michael Carnahan is writing the screenplay.
Production has started on The Lovers And The Despot, a UK-produced documentary about South Korea’s two biggest movie stars who are kidnapped by movie-obsessed dictator Kim Jong-il and forced into making films. Robert Cannan and Ross Adam are jointly directing, with Sandra Whipham producing for London Fields Pictures. The project was recently pitched at the IDFA.
Ton Trupia has started principal photography on Itaker, which centres on a young Italian boy who goes in search of his father in Germany after his mother dies. The film stars Michele Placido, Francesco Scianna and Monica Barladeanu. Trupia co-wrote the script with Michele Placido, with the latter also producing for Goldenart Productions alongside Rai Cinema and Romanian company Mandragora Movies. Trentino Alto-Adige Fund provided financial support for this $2.7m film and Cincetta’ Luce will release in Italy next autumn.
