Bates and Goldberg join Film Department’s romantic comedy.

Kathy Bates and Whoopi Goldberg have joined Kate Hudson and Gael Garcia Bernal on the Film Department’s romantic comedy Earthbound.

Rosemarie DeWitt and Lucy Punch also feature in the story of an irreverent young woman who unexpectedly falls in love with her doctor.

Production began in New Orleans on January 18. Nicole Kassell is directing from a screenplay by Gren Wells, with John Davis, Mark Gill, Robert Katz and Adam Schroeder producing. Neil Sacker and Michael Goguen serve as executive producers. 

The Film Department is seeking a public stock offering to pay down debt and finance its distribution and marketing ambitions. Its credits include the thriller Law-Abiding Citizen, which grossed more than $110m globally.
