Morgan Creek prepares Tupac biopic for spring / summer shoot
As Morgan Creek continues to find a way to assemble its ambitious sci-fi project Passengers the LA-based company announced it is moving ahead with its long gestating Tupac Shakur biopic.
Universal will handle North American distribution and is co-selling overseas with Morgan Creek International. Antoine Fuqua is set to commence principal photography in late spring / early summer on the film, which will chronicle the life and times of the notorious musician and now iconic figure in the internecine war that ravaged the rap industry.
The project has the blessing of Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur-Davis, who will take an executive producer credit. “I am confident that Morgan Creek will stay true to the common goal we share of depicting Tupac’s life in a way that will allow the world to see the authenticity of his artistry, his hopes, and his life goals,” she said.
Shooting is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, New York, Georgia and Las Vegas and the producers are out to cast. Morgan Creek co-chairman and CEO James Robinson is producing with David Robinson and LT Hutton. Steve Bagatourian, Stephen J Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson wrote the screenplay.
Morgan Creek’s DreamHouse starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz will open through Universal in the US on Sept 30.
