The My Summer Of Love director is developing a film version of James Meek’s novel We Are Now Beginning Our Descent.

Polish born, UK based director Pawel Pawlikowski is working on the film adaptation of British writer James Meek’s contemporary war love story We Are Now Beginning Our Descent.

The film is being developed by Karen Katz of London based company Coded Pictures, whose credits include Mat Whitecross’ documentary Moving To Mars and Junkhearts, which is currently shooting in London.

Pawlikowski is adapting the screenplay with Toby Finlay, who wrote Dorian Gray for Ealing Studios. The story centres around an aspiring British novelist who falls in love whilst covering military operations in the Afghan mountains. It is set in London, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The project, which could shoot in 2011, has received development funding from the UK Film Council.

Pawlikowski has just finished shooting Woman In The Fifth for Haut Et Court starring Ethan Hawke in Paris.
