Reese Witherspoon’s Type A Films is joining with Vancouver-based Brightlight Pictures and Toronto-based Rhombus Media to produce the feature Under The Bridge.

Based on the book by Canadian journalist Rebecca Godfrey, the story dissects the 2005 murder of a teenage girl in a small town in British Columbia and the seemingly normal teenagers who were implicated in the crime.

Shawn Williamson and Steve Hegyes of Brightlight and Niv Fichman of Rhombus will produce alongside Witherspoon and her Type A partner Jennifer Simpson.

In a statement, Simpson said, “Rebecca’s book is a stunning and heartbreaking tale that looks at a very dark side of teenage life. We are committed to bringing Under The Bridge to the big screen and making a film that does this story justice. By teaming with Brightlight and Rhombus, we will be able to do just that.”

Brightlight and Rhombus recently partnered on the comic western Gunless from writer-director William Philips, starring Paul Gross and Sienna Guillory. The film will be released in Canada on April 30.
