First instalment of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy to have its Royal UK premiere on Dec 12.

Sir Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has been chosen for this year’s 65th Royal Film Performance.

The first part in Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy will receive its Royal UK premiere in London on Dec 12 in the presence of members of the Royal Family. Full details of the Royal Film Performance, the principal fundraising event of the UK film and television industry’s trade charity Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF), will be revealed closer to the date.

CTBF president Anne Bennett commented: “We are thrilled to be able to host the UK premiere of this highly anticipated first instalment of The Hobbit trilogy. We are thankful to Sir Peter Jackson and Warner Bros., New Line and MGM for providing this opportunity, and are grateful for the unswerving support the Royal Family gives to our charity and the Royal Film Performance. The funds we raise make a huge difference to the lives of many less fortunate colleagues.”

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released in the UK in 3D, 2D and IMAX on Dec 14 through Warner Bros.
