EXCLUSIVE: Paris-based sales powerhouse Wild Bunch has picked up international sales on Liv Ullmann’s upcoming $5m battle-of-the-sexes drama Miss Julie starring Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton.

The picture is adapted from Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s 1888 work capturing the emotional power struggle between a spirited young aristocrat and one of her father’s servants. It is due to start shooting on April 2, with Russian Mikhail Krichman in the DOP seat, for an autumn 2014 delivery.

Synnøve Hørsdal of Oslo-based Maipo produces with the support of co-producers Teun Hilte of London-based The Apocalypse Films Company Ltd and Rita Dagher’s Paris-based Senorita Films.

The $5m picture recently secured $1.45m in support from the Norwegian Film Institute.

Wild Bunch will start sales in Berlin on Gregg Araki’s thriller White Bird in a Blizzard, starring Shailene Woodley as a girl whose life is thrown into chaos by the disappearance of her mother. The cast also features Eva Green, Shiloh Fernandez, Christopher Meloni and Angela Bassett.

The film, made by Paris-based Why Not Productions, has been shot and is in post-production.

Festival titles on Wild Bunch’s slate include Ken Loach’s The Spirit of ’45; opening film The Grandmaster, which is practically sold out worldwide; and Bruno Dumont’s Golden Bear contender Camille Claudel 1915, starring Juliette Binoche as the tragic sculptress and older sister of writer Paul Claudel, who was also Rodin’s mistress for 15 years.

“All the territories on Camille are open; hardly anyone has seen it. Everyone thought it would be a small auteur work but in fact it’s a lot more mainstream than Bruno’s usual films, and I think it will surprise people,” Wild Bunch sales chief Vincent Maraval told Screen.

Wild Bunch’s slate also includes the latest nature documentary from March of the Penguins film-maker Luc Jacquet, Once Upon a Forest, charting the birth and growth of a tropical rainforest over a period of several hundred years.

The director will attend the EFM to discuss the project with buyers and showcase a new promo reel.
