Sierra/Affinity has licensed its Heat reboot starring Jason Statham to Lionsgate UK and a host of territories.
The LA-based sales agent announced on Friday [17] a slew of deals with: Germany (Universum/RTL), Latin America (Sun), CIS and Baltics (Zao West), Scandinavia (Nordisk), Japan (Klockworx), China (Star Alliance), Switzerland (Ascot Elite), South Africa (Ster Kinekor) and Benelux (Dutch Filmworks).
Rights also went to Hong Kong (Sound Space), Malaysia (Multivision), Singapore (Cathay-Keris Films), Thailand (Sahamongkolfilm), India (Tanweer), Portugal (Lusomundo), Israel (United King), Middle East (Eagle), Turkey (Mediamax), Eastern Europe (SPI) and Iceland (Samfilm).
Simon West directed the story from a screenplay by William Goldman. Statham reprises the role of a kind-hearted bodyguard originally played by Burt Reynolds and produces the project with Steven Chasman for SJ Pictures. Production is underway in New Orleans and Las Vegas.
Goldman also wrote the screenplay for the 1986 original.
