The well received Rise of The Planet Of The Apes crossed $100m in its second weekend following an estimated $27.5m number one hold in North America.

The drama stands at $104.9m and was too strong for DreamWorks’ Civil Rights Era drama The Help, which opened well in second place through Buena Vista on $25.5m and has already reached $35.4m since its Wednesday launch.

Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain star in Tate Taylor’s adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s international bestseller.

Warner Bros launched Final Destination 5, New Line’s latest episode in the horror franchise, in third place on 18.4m.

The Smurfs crossed $100m for Sony in its third weekend while stablemate 30 Minutes Or Less, an adventure comedy that reunites director Ruben Fleischer with his Zombieland star and Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg, debuted in fifth place on $13m. Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari and Michael Pena also star.

Glee The 3D Concert Movie opened through Fox in eleventh place on $5.7m.

Next weekend’s wide releases are Lionsgate’s Conan The Barbarian reboot starring Jason Momoa and Dimension Films’ Spy Kids: All The Time In The World. Buena Vista releases DreamWorks’ Fright Night reboot starring Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin and Toni Collette and Focus Features opens the romance One Day with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.
